Saint Gilles Croix de Vie is located in the Vendée (85) department of Pays de la Loire. It is both nautical town and seaside resort with its old neighbourhoods dating back to ancient times. The port is the oldest in the Vendée region and the top French sardine port on the Atlantic coast. In addition to this the fact that it is home to the Beneteau sailboat company has made this resort the cradle of sailing.
The Vendée coast is well-known for its exceptional glow as the creeks and long sandy beaches invite you to relax in the sunshine. There is 250 km of coast, 140 km of which is fine sandy beach. Saint Gilles Croix de Vie itself has 3.5km of sandy beach - the main beach is on the north side of the Vie estuary, on the south side you can find a delightful maze of old fisherman’s cottages set in between the port and the shopping area.
